Copyright : Dmitry Guzhanin Professionals in these three practices share a common theme that might have people confused as to what the difference is: they all use their hands to treat patients. When it comes to injury prevention and recovery, there are a variety of suggested treatment options. People throw around the idea of physical therapy, chiropractic care and massage therapy. Without proper understanding of these approaches, one may be unsure which route is the most appropriate.
It’s important to do what is the absolute best for your body in order to provide proper recovery and avoid future injury. See below for the differences in these three approaches and find which option might be best for you and your team. Massage therapyMassage therapists are not often seen as traditional healthcare providers; however, they do have a role in hospitals and other healthcare settings. More often than not, massage therapy takes place in a spa setting with a focus on health and wellness. Many studies show a reduction of pain, decrease in anxiety and relaxation may take place by way of massage therapy. There are a variety of types of massage therapy including aromatherapy, hot stone, deep tissue and sports massage. These professionals are able to target specific areas that carry tension, providing relief for arthritis, insomnia, headaches and other ailments. Chiropractic careSimilar to massage and physical therapy, chiropractic care treats a variety of conditions including lower back pain, pregnancy pain, digestive issues, neck pain, headaches and blood pressure. A chiropractor’s approach is to release subluxations located in the spine. This can provide relief and allow the nervous system and the rest of the body to perform at its best ability. Overall, chiropractic care is focused on any misalignment in the spinal vertebrae. Physical therapyA physical therapists primary goal is to minimize patients’ pain or discomfort and increase function. By careful observation of the joints and an evaluation on a patient’s movements, a physical therapist can diagnose and craft a unique program suited to the individual. For physical therapists, it’s all about the movement. Whether it’s preventative care or treating an injury, physical therapy aims to provide treatment by way of movement and stretching. There is, inevitably, some overlap with these three professions. The end goals are all very similar, in that they aim to provide relief from pain, stress or injury. The differences lie in their methods and practices as well as schooling and certifications. If you’re seeking to prevent injury on the job site or are in need of a unique injury-recovery plan just for you, On-Site Solutions Physical Therapy is here to help.

That's good to know that a physical focuses on movement and reducing a patient's pain or discomfort. This is helpful since my shoulders have been hurting for months and they are getting stiffer lately. I'll have to find a physical therapist I can go to to have my shoulders looked at to see what I can do to minimize the pain and move the easier.

Thanks for pointing out how chiropractic care treats lower pack pain. I got into an accident while driving to work that left me dealing with whiplash. My lower back is killing me, so I'll be sure to visit a chiropractor to get treated.

That is nice that a physical therapist will minimize pain and increase function. Maybe it would be good to find some physical therapy that I could do sometime soon. Then I would be able to have better functions with my knees.

My son does a lot of sports throughout the school year so I wanted some tips and advice on him not getting hurt or too sore. I didn't know physical therapy was all about movement and treats people by the way of movement and stretching. My son doesn't do a lot of stretching outside of practices or games so going to physical therapy even though he doesn't have an injury could prevent him from getting one; I'll look around for physical therapists that fits his tastes and my budget, thanks to this post!

I thought it interesting when you mentioned that physical therapy is all about the movement. I would say that is a great way to describe it for people who don't know what physical therapy is about. From my point of view, it is all about helping people regaining mobility.

I found it interesting that a physical therapist's primary goal is to minimize pain and discomfort while increasing function. To me, this means they'd be helpful to see if you've injured yourself playing sports or have overstretched something. I'll have to look more into physical therapy.

Thanks for putting barriers among physical therapy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy. Regular massage therapy has a lot of positive influence on the health of a person. It helps to solve different types of issues associated with the nervous system of the body. Besides, deformities in the skeletal system and cardiovascular system could be regulated by massage therapy. It optimizes the blood flow and blood pressure of the body. Besides, massage therapy also helps to optimize hormone synthesis in our body. For more assistance, visit

I appreciate how you said that a physical therapist's job is to help reduce pain as well as help your body work better. My wife has been complaining about some pain in her joints lately and it has made it hard for her to do her job. We'll have to look into hiring a good physical therapy professional who can help her feel a little more comfortable.

With all these therapies, it is good to know the difference between the three. I probably need to go get some chiropractic care as I have been having some back issues. As you said here, it is similar to massage and physical therapy, but it focuses on problems with your back and neck.

I appreciate that this post highlights that physical therapy provides treatment through stretching and movement as they aim to minimize the pain a patient is feeling. Because my work demands me to sit in front of my laptop for hours, I am been experiencing some pain in my wrists and back to a point my doctor recommended me to see a physical therapist. Now that I understand the purpose of a physical therapist, I am more confident to schedule an appointment right after I make sure the therapist is licensed and experienced.

I had no idea that physical therapy focuses on reducing pain and increasing function by way of movement and stretching. My legs have been hurting a lot recently and I can barely walk some days. I'll see if I can get help from a physical therapist before I go to an expensive doctor.

Thanks for pointing out that physical therapy would be helpful in minimizing the pain or discomfort that a patient feels and increasing functions in their body. I guess I will suggest this to my dad and also help him book a reputable therapist. It's because he has this pain in his lower back and knees that have been affecting the way he walks for the past year.

With that in mind, I will suggest to my sister to see one now that she has issues with her lower back. It might have been caused by sitting for long hours almost every day in front of a computer.
